Another "adopted girl" I'm featuring. I can't bear to think of an unfinished quilt top or blocks that have no home with anyone to love them...a few years ago I bought on e-bay several vintage tops and blocks. I feed them sandwiches {a quilting back a filler of batting and a pretty top}, then I take care of their boo boo's {stitching them together}, and then I give them lots of hugs {wrapping up and keeping warm}.
This pattern is the "tree of life", and it is one of my favorite, I don't have time in my life right now to do this type of piecing, but I enjoy quilting them on my long-arm and bringing them to "life". This top was all hand pieced, and I have to tell you maybe the reason it was never finished was because let me tell you it did not lay flat whatsoever, the sewing was with some pretty large stiches and there was so much fabric gapping I had a very difficult time quilting it, I had to overlap the border in a couple of different places and sew it down.
I just love this soft bubble gum pink paired with the turquoise blue, two solid color quilts can be very striking.
The tree of life pieced blocks are alternated with the a plain pink, so I choose a turquoise thread to quilt a tree on those blocks.
I thought the borders called for a traditional feather design, I have not put a binding on the quilt yet.
I imagine it will look different once washed. I used three different Kaffe Fassett fabrics for the backing that I pieced.
All in all, even though she was a tough girl to raise, I love her, appreciate her for who she is, the flaws and beauty.
